Pipe accessories

Pipe cleaners.

As the pipe should be all time pure and, the main thing, dry, you will need pipe cleaners for cleaning the smoke channel. It is important, that pipe cleaners adsorb moisture well. Despite seeming simplicity of this adaptation, there are many kinds of pipe cleaners. They differ with diameter, material, hairiness, form. There are conic pipe cleaners, abrasive with a twisted thin wire for especially careful cleaning. Usually it is offered four kinds.
•
Standard — satisfies the needs of the majority of smokers.
• Super thin (extra) — assorts well for the thin and bent mouthpieces.
•
Conic — a thin tip for mouthpiece cleaning and thick one for shank cleaning.
•
Conic with a metal brush — for general weekly cleaning of your pipe.
There exist also very long pipe cleaners for mouthpiece cleaning of type Churchwarden, and wide pipe cleaners from bristle for hatchway cleaning for a mouthpiece or the filter in the shank.
The choice of the pipe cleaner should proceed from diameter of the smoke channel and the mouthpiece form. If the mouthpiece is bent there can be problems at cleaning and in this case it is better to choose a pipe cleaner of smaller diameter.
Never leave a pipe cleaner in the pipe as it does not allow it to "breathe". When the pipe is on a
stand the air passes through the channel freely and the moisture evaporates gradually. If your pipe became sourish hold a pipe cleaner in cognac or spirit, or moisten it in a special liquid, for example of firm "DENICOTEA" and then clean the smoke channel of the mouthpiece and the shank, and clean slightly a cup bottom. It refreshes «the tired pipe» very well. By the way, if the pipe has soured or has got an unnecessary smell, that is a very good way to cure the soured pipe and to remove the absorbed pitches and smells.

Pipe knifes, tampers, tees.
For tobacco filling you need a tamper, with other words «a beetle». With the help of it you should thumb ashes from the burnt through tobacco in a pipe. Expensive stylish features which are good for pulling out from leather cozy in due time, in a proper place.
There are even collections of tampers from the most various materials. Somehow it was possible to see such collection consisting, approximately, from two hundred copies. Very
, very curious thing!

For pipe cleaning there are special tees or the pipe knifes on sale usually consisting from a tamper, spoons or edges for cleaning of the pipe cup from the ashes rests; and a core or an awl for cleaning the cup of the smoke channel from tobacco tails. But in general, there also exist many similar tools and sets. From simple and cheap sets, to sets which consist of many parts with the inlaid handles, etc. Accessories also concern rimers or drills applied for removal of a superfluous snuff about which is more detailed in section Repair of pipes.

Ashtrays.
Mostly the pipe ashtray differs from usual made of soft plastic or a cork of an oval ledge that gives possibility for light tapping to beat out the top layer of ashes.
Never knock for this purpose a pipe on a firm surface. In a case with the meerschaum pipe you simply break it, in a case with the heather pipe you will be considered for the barbarian and the savage. As an exception there is the application of pipe ashtrays with cork or plastic "bit".
There are the pipe ashtrays, equipped with the stands counting upon one, two, three and more pipes.

Pipe lighters.
It is very convenient to use special pipe lighters with a horizontal flame which of them there is a huge variety. Turbo-lighters with a tight sting of the flame are very convenient, allowing lighting up tobacco very evenly. However, you should be able to handle with such lighters, because it is possible to spoil a pipe very easily.

Besides, it is good to have special stands for pipes. They can be rated for one pipe, and can be made for several tens. The stands for several pipes could be combined with a pressure vessel for tobacco storage. These vessels can be subdivided into two kinds: usual and, so-called, humidors which are supplied by a humidifier, a hydrometer and other similar gadgets. Such box does not allow tobacco to dry up or sour. They are made from glass, ceramics, steel, silver, wood.
Here it is some examples of stands and boxes for tobacco storage. There are stands with boxes on four, eight, and ten pipes. There is a stand for 24 pipes with a box in the centre.
